Experiencing tingling Sensations?
No, I do not mean Yulefest preparations, but the feelings also known as pins and needles or numbness down your arm (or legs).
The Digi generation is fantastically inventive and makes our lives extremely convenient, efficient and fast. Yet, thedownsidee is asking a lot of our body, with static posture, sitting hours on end getting things done. You may overuse your neck and forearm muscles accomplishing your deadlines. This leads to super tight muscles that do not release. The circulation is restricted, waste (knots) accumulate and the tension can press on the nerves trapping their signalling. This is dangerous for a nerve so it starts signalling it needs space by giving you sensations like tingling or intense pain, either in the neck, down the arm or even in the hand. You may even feel the sensation down the legs when your gluteus shorten and tighten up from all that sitting.
Many people do not realize soft tissue entrapment can be the cause of the pain your experiencing. Aka tight muscles. Not necessarily always the case but if so, then remedial massage can help.
Often, I hear from my clients they know all the things that are good for them but do not seem to be able to integrate them. What if I tell you that you can hire someone to do the job for you? Once a month?!
Releasing the tight muscles around the area of the irritated nerve can create room and blood flow in the area. We do not work directly on that area as the nerve may become even more irritated. However, a muscle that runs along with soft tissue structure around it will respond to stimuli and can be released. We also passively stretch the muscle for you and educate you on how to do easy home stretches to stay on top of things.
Alternatively, reflexology could be helpful to send a message through the corresponding reflex area on the feet, hands or face. As it is away from the problem area this can be an effective way of releasing and restoring overall balance. Learn more about reflexology.
Stuck at work for the time being? Here are some self-help tips to look after yourself to get you through to the End Of Financial Year stress.
What can you do?
In the office: TAKE 5 (every 30/60minutes)
Roll your neck in circles, roll your shoulders back and give your arms and wrists a good shake.
At home – SELF MASSAGE NECK
Roll the edge of your skull on a foam roller or firm surface, slowly from left to right and give it a good self-massage. Well-deserved after working hard all day and only takes 5-10 minutes!
STRETCH your upper shoulder muscles
Grab bottom of a chair with right hand. Bring your left ear to your left shoulder and place your left hand on your right ear carefully applying pressure. When you feel the stretch of your neck and upper shoulder muscle hold for 30-60 seconds and repeat 5-10 times, before doing the other side. Do this two to three times a day and feel the difference in the long run.
HEAT IT UP – Sore spot(s)
Apply warmth to the painful area via a 20 minute heat pack, heat patches or rub heating cream on it or just take a hot shower or bath with Epsom salts.
ENROL IN A YOGA CLASS – Good for the mind and the body
Yoga is not always airy fairy. There are many forms of yoga. Active, Flowing or more focused on calm and stretch. Some have elements of meditation in them but not all. It can be quite a work out, and if you are really up for a challenge try hot yoga!
TREAT and MANAGE – Get a Remedial Massage
I know. You do not have time! Still, getting regular massage will help release tightness and tension before it may become a condition like RSI. Besides that, it will de-stress you which helps you to stay more alert and focused.
So, it is worth it to arrange time in your schedule, even for 30 minutes or on a Saturday for once a month.
No wealth without health. Take care of yourself and achieve excellent results!
